HTC 8X vs. Nokia Lumia 928

Windows Phone is getting popular these days because all the new and popular apps are also released for this OS. Today we will be comparing Windows Phone from HTC and Nokia which are HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 928.

Design:

The dimensions of 8X and Lumia 928 are (132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1 mm) and (133 x 68.9 x 10.1 mm) respectively. Both the smartphones have nearly same dimensions except for that Lumia 928 is a little longer and wider. And have same shapes. Both the smartphones are comfortable while holding and can be operated by a single hand.

Display:

8X has a 4.3 inch S-LCD2 capacitive touchscreen (720 x 1280 pixels) with a pixel density of 342ppi. While the Lumia 928 comes with an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (768 x 1280 pixels) with a pixel density of 332ppi. Plus both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection. 8X’s display is a bit better than the display of Lumia 928 because of better pixel density on a slightly smaller screen.

Connectivity:

Both smartphones support 2G, 3G and 4G networks. Both smartphones have same Wi-Fi but they only differ due to Wi-Fi hotspot (Lumia 928 support Wi-Fi hotspot and 8X does not). 8X and Lumia 928 comprise of Bluetooth 3.1 and 3.0 respectively. Both support micro-sim.

Hardware:

The hardware specification of both the smartphones is same. Both are equipped with 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor with 1GB of RAM. And are equally matched in terms of speed.

Operating System:

Again, operating system is same too. Both come with Windows 8 and are upgradable to Windows 8 Amber.

Memory:

8X comes with an internal memory of 16GB with no card slot to expand memory. Lumia 928 comes with 32GB internal memory with no expandable memory.

Camera:

Rear Camera:

Camera is the main feature of the Lumia series. Camera of both the smartphones is same i.e. 8MP (3264 x 2448 pixels). 8X has LED flash while Lumia 928 has xenon flash. Lumia 928’s camera takes the lead only because of the features of its camera. It has 1/3.2” sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size, Carl Zeiss Optics, Optical Image Stabilization, PureView technology, Geo-tagging and Panorama. While the 8X has very few features as compared to Lumia such as ultra-wide-angle lens (which allows taking a picture nearly twice the size of normal image), Geo-tagging, touch focus and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures). Both smartphones cameras can record videos at 1080p@30fps.

Secondary Camera:

8X has 2.1MP (1080p@30fps) secondary camera and Lumia 928 has 1.3MP (720p@30fps) secondary camera.

Battery:

Lumia 928 is equipped with Non-removable Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery with an estimated stand-by time of 540 hours (11h 30min talk time). 8X is equipped with Non-removable Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery with an estimated stand-by time of 280 hours (11h 15min talk time). The stand-by time of Lumia 928 is double than the 8X but their talk time is very similar with a difference of only 15 minutes. Their battery drainage on Web Browsing is 6 hours. So, battery of both the smartphones is nearly equal (except for the stand-by time).

Additional Features:

Some features of 8X include beats audio sound enhancement and Dedicated HTC Image chip. Lumia 928 includes Dolby headphone sound enhancement and Wireless Charging. There aren’t much extra features in both the smartphones because their price is a little low than other smartphones available in the market.

Price:

8X’s price was high at the time of release but it has dropped significantly now. It’s worth $230 which is quite reasonable for a smartphone like this with a brand name. Lumia 928’s current price is around $380 which is also a low budget smartphone and is affordable.

Conclusion:

Well, it all comes down to the main question that is “Which smartphone is better?” It all depends on the user needs and his preference. Both the smartphones are nearly the same. If I had to choose, I would have bought the 8X because it lacks very minor features compared to Lumia 928 and saves $150 (It’s my opinion. Yours can be different.)
Please comment about what is your choice? And why?
