Samsung Galaxy Round vs. LG G Flex

Everyone imagined seeing a major change in smartphones i.e. a smartphone that can be curved. Well, that imagination is coming to a reality to some extent. Samsung has launched the world’s first curved smartphone known as “Samsung Galaxy Round”. It’s not flexible rather it has a curved screen. LG also launched a curved screen smartphone after Samsung called “LG G Flex”. And today, we will be comparing these “curved” smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Round

LG G Flex

Design:

As described above, both the smartphones are curved and are very identical to each other. Samsung Galaxy Round’s shape is similar to the note series shape while the LG G Flex is a bit more round around the edges and its a little more flexible than the Galaxy Round. G Flex (8.7mm) is a little thicker than the Galaxy Round (7.9mm).

Display:

Samsung used the same type of touchscreen that they used in the galaxy series i.e. Super AMOLED except that it’s “Super Flexible AMOLED” in the Galaxy Round. It has a 5.7 inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 386ppi. G Flex comes with 6 inch “Curved P-OLED” (245ppi) with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The pixel density of Galaxy Round is way better than the G Flex.

Connectivity:

Both the curved smartphones support 2G, 3G, 4G network, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.0 and micro-sim.

Hardware:

Both the curved smartphones have nearly the same processor. G Flex is Quad-core with 2.26 GHz processor while the Galaxy Round is Quad-core with 2.3 GHz processor. But when we come to the RAM then the Galaxy Round has 3 GB RAM while the G Flex has 2 GB RAM. It means that the hardware of Galaxy Round is better.

Operating System:

Both the phones run the Android OS (Jellybean). The only difference is that Galaxy Round runs Android 4.3 and the G Flex runs Android 4.2.2. (Although the latest version of android is Android 4.4) But still Galaxy Round runs a newer version of android than G Flex.

Memory:

Both the curved smartphones are available in 32 GB internal memory. But Galaxy Round has expandable memory (up to 64 GB micro SD card). G Flex has no card slot to expand memory.

Camera:

Again, both the smartphones have nearly the same camera which is 13 MP with LED flash. Galaxy Round has some more features than G Flex which include Dual Shot, Panorama and image stabilization. Galaxy Round can record 2160p@30fps or 1080p@60fps while the G Flex can record only 1080p@60fps with stereo sound recording.

The camera result of both the curved smartphones is same. There isn't much visible difference between them.

Battery:

In terms of battery, Galaxy Round has a Removable Li-Ion 2800 mAh battery while the G Flex has a curved Non-removable Li-Po 3500 mAh battery.

Additional Features:

Galaxy Round has same features like the other galaxy smartphones such as Dual Shot, Air Gesture etc. while the G Flex does not have any additional features except for the Self-healing coating on the back which “heals” minor scratches on the back in less than 5 minutes.

Price:

Both G Flex and Galaxy Round costs between $1000 and $1100. There isn’t any difference between the prices but Galaxy Round specs are better than the G Flex.

Conclusion:

After the above discussion, it is obvious that Samsung Galaxy Round is a better curved smartphone than the LG G Flex (except for the Self-healing feature which is quite cool) at the same price. So, if you want a curved smartphone than you should probably go for Samsung Galaxy Round. (Although I don’t think that they are worth spending a $1000).
