Apple
turned out to be successful with Iphone 5S which topped the UK Sales Chart this
year. And on the other hand, HTC One was declared the Gadget and Smartphone of
the year in Gadgets Awards 2013. And today, we are going to compare one of the
top smartphones of this year.
Design:
Apple
continues the design of its predecessor. The only difference is that its
display is a little longer. It is round from the edges and is perfect for
single hand use. When we come to HTC One’s design then it is the best designed
smartphone of 2013. It’s a little bigger in length and width then the Iphone
5S. Its size is reasonable too and can be easily operated by a single hand. HTC
One (143 grams) is a bit heavier than the Iphone 5S (112 grams). It is 9.3mm
thick. But Iphone 5S is quite thin as compared to HTC One whose thickness is
7.6mm. In other words, both the smartphones look and feel great in hand.
Display:
HTC One
comes with a 4.7 inches Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen (1080 x 1920 pixels)
with a pixel density of 469ppi which is one of the best pixel densities on
smartphones available in the market. While Iphone 5S comes with an LED-backlit
IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen (640 x 1136 pixels) with a pixel density of
326ppi. HTC One’s display is simply better than the Iphone 5S in terms of
screen resolution and pixel density. I know that Iphone 5S screen is smaller
but HTC One’s display is still better even on a larger screen. Iphone 5S screen
is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and HTC One’s screen is protected by
Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
Connectivity:
Both the
smartphones support 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi Hotspot and
Bluetooth 4.0. One thing must be kept in mind that Bluetooth of Iphone 5S can
only be used to connect with a Bluetooth headset. It does not support any kind
of file transfer not even Iphone-to-Iphone. HTC One supports micro-sim while
Iphone 5S supports nano-sim. HTC One also consists of an Infrared port.
Hardware:
HTC One
is equipped with Quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset backed up
with 2GB RAM. Iphone 5S is equipped with Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone Apple A7
chipset paired with 1GB RAM (DDR3). Now, although Iphone 5S is a dual-core but
its chipset is totally different from others and is made by Apple itself. And
if you think that HTC One would be faster than than Iphone 5S then you’re
totally wrong. Iphone 5S is faster than most of the Android smartphones
available in the market including HTC One. But HTC One isn’t slow either. It’s
the fastest Quad-core smartphone with Snapdragon 600 chipset as compared to
other smartphones of the same chipset. So,in terms of speed Iphone 5S takes the
lead.
Operating
System:
There
isn’t any comparison of OS of both the smartphones. HTC One runs Android 4.1.2
(JellyBean) and upgradable to Android 4.3 (JellyBean) with version 5 of custom
UI of HTC called HTC Sense which allows multitasking. HTC is planning to
provide Android 4.4 (KitKat) Upgrade to HTC One (although KitKat update is
available for HTC One Google Play Edition) but for “normal” HTC One it’s not
confirmed right now. Iphone 5S runs IOS 7. It’s upgradable to IOS 7.0.4. Both
of these smartphones run totally different OS but their interface is a little
similar.
Memory:
Memory
isn’t that much big factor but it’s a factor all right. HTC One comes in 32GB
and 64GB with no card slot to expand memory. Iphone 5S comes with 16GB, 32GB
and 64GB internal memory again with no card slot.
Camera:
Rear Camera:
As I told in my previous HTC One comparison that people get wrong ideas about its camera. It’s not really 4MP; it’s rather 4 “Ultra” MP camera whose results are equivalent to 13MP cameras. In addition to 4 Ultra MP camera, there’s an LED flash at the back. For detailed info about the Ultrapixel camera, Click Here. Iphone 5S comprises of an 8MP camera with dual-LED (True Tone) flash. Some features of HTC One’s camera are 1/3” sensor size, 2µm pixel size, simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, autofocus and optical image stabilization. Iphone 5S camera features include 1/3'' sensor size, 1.5 µm pixel size, simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR panorama, HDR photo and autofocus. HTC One’s pixel size is greater than Iphone 5S’s pixel size (the greater the pixel size, more light would be taken in which would result in brighter images). Both smartphones can record 1080p@30fps videos. But Iphone 5S can record better 720p videos @120fps with video stabilization while HTC One can record 720p videos @60fps.Front Camera:
Secondary camera of HTC One is 2.1MP and can record 1080p videos @30fps. Secondary camera of Iphone 5S is 1.2MP and can record 720p videos @30fps with face detection and FaceTime over Wi-Fi.
Camera Samples:
(Camera samples do not belong to me. They have been taken from cnet.com)
Outdoor:
Indoor (low light):
Battery:
HTC One
consists of Non-removable Li-Po 2300 mAh battery with a stand-by time of 480h
(3G) while Iphone 5S consists of Non-removable 1560 mAh battery with a stand-by
time of 250h (3G). HTC One’s battery is far better than Iphone 5S. On normal
use, HTC One easily gives 11/2 to 2 days without
charging. But Iphone 5S needs to be charged everyday even on normal use.
Additional
Features:
HTC One
additional features include HTC BoomSound (Dual-frontal speakers with
amplifiers), HTC BlinkFeed (Live Home Screen), and HTC Zoe (Camera Mode).
Iphone 5S features include Audio/Video editor, AirDrop file sharing (A file
sharing service to share files Iphone-to-Iphone), Siri natural language
commands and dictation and not to forget the Fingerprint Sensor present on the home button. Some common features of both the smartphones are Active
noise cancellation with dedicated mic, TV Out, Image editor, Document
viewer/editor, Dial commands and Predictive text input.
Price:
HTC One
costs $600 (32GB) and $700(64GB). Iphone 5S costs $650(16GB), $749(32GB) and
$849(64GB). Iphone 5S is surely more expensive than the HTC One.
Conclusion:
You read
the whole comparison just to know which smartphone is better. And you know
what; even I don’t really know the answer to that question. Both the
smartphones are evenly matched. If you’re an apple lover then you should probably go for Iphone 5S. But if you want great specs with Android OS then HTC One
is for you. My preference would be HTC One because of Android OS (I prefer android OS over IOS because
of its App store and a little more user-friendly than IOS).
Please
give your feedback about what is your preference and Why?
In my opinion, by reading all above, HTC one is better than Apple Iphone 5s because of much price difference, picture quality and files sharing (which can't be done by iphone 5s using bluetooth).
