Nokia and HTC signed a collaboration agreement to end pending patents

After winning the recent patent against HTC in Germany, Nokia has finally decided to put an end to this argument. Both the smartphone companies have signed a patent and technology collaboration agreement to dismiss all the patents that were pending in the court of Germany. The agreement states that payments will be made by HTC to Nokia and collaboration involoves HTC LTE patent portfolio. Moreover, both the companies may explore opportunities of technology collaboration between each other in future. The full terms and conditions of the agreement have been made confidential. After both the companies decided to agree to the terms of the agreement, Chief Intellectual Property officer of Nokia, Paul Melin,
said:
"We are very pleased to have reached a settlement and collaboration agreement with HTC, which is a long standing Licensee for Nokia's standards essential patents"
General Counsel of HTC, Grace Lei, stated:
"Nokia has one of the most preeminent patent portfolios in the industry. As an industry pioneer in smartphones with a strong patent portfolio, HTC is pleased to come to this agreement, which will enable us to stay focused on innovation for consumers."
