According to PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority), there are 132
million mobile phone users out of the total 180 million population of
Pakistan. And all of them are operating on 2G even though a lot better
technologies have been introduced.
3G and 4G are the latest form of telecommunication and has taken over 2G since long time ago. But unfortunately, Pakistan even being a developed country is not availing these connectivity. At last, Finance Minister of Pakistan finally announced the auction for 3G and 4G licensing.
Finance Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, said that an
auction for 3G and 4G connectivity will take place in Islamabad. The auction is scheduled to be held in April.
The license of 3G will cost $295 million and 4G license will cost $210 million. The payment can be made in two ways. Either the company pays the full payment to the government or they can pay the total amount in five equal payment in five years.
Although there are two available methods for the payment of amount due but the finance minister said that they are expecting a full payment from the license buying companies. He also said that this auction can boost Pakistan's foreign reserves.
