Octa-core smartphones are getting popular. But due to increase in its fame, a misconception has been created that an Octa-core smartphone can process data using all the eight cores side by side. It is true only in case of true Octa-core chipset smartphones. Today, we are going to discuss the difference between an ordinary Octa-core and a true Octa-core chipset.
An ordinary Octa-core chipset is made up of 8 cores based on two different chipsets. Both the chipsets contain 4 cores each making a total of 8 cores. A smartphone that is equipped with an ordinary Octa-core chipset can access either one of the 4-core (Quad-core) chipset at a time; limiting the processing power to 4 cores rather than 8 cores. Thus, making it a Quad-core.
Now we'll come to the true Octa-core chipset. A true Octa-core chipset is also made up of 8 cores. Unlike the ordinary Octa-core chipset, it does not contain any further chipsets. A smartphone equipped with a true Octa-core chipset has access to all the 8 cores and runs them at the same time. It surely consumes more power than an ordinary Octa-core chipset as it has to power all the 8 cores simultaneously but provides a better user experience with blazing fast speed.
